AFL Canberra: Around the Grounds (W6)

There are now no undefeated teams left in the lower grades as we wrap up the action from Around the Grounds in AFL Canberra.

Belconnen and Tuggeranong continued their battle for Second Grade supremacy after collecting wins on the weekend. Eastlake joined them in the winners’ circle for Round 6.

Eastlake and Marist played out a thriller in the Rising Stars top of the table clash, with the Demons just getting over the line. Queanbeyan produced a comeback victory over Ainslie, and Belconnen had a convincing win over Tuggeranong.

Woden now sit outright first on the Third Grade ladder after knocking over ANU. Molonglo completed a decisive 100-point victory, as ADFA/RMC also collected the points.

In Fourth Grade action, Molonglo completed their second victory in as many games with a win over UC. Harman and ANU continued their brilliant starts to 2015, with both sides getting wins in their respective hit-outs.

Cooma mounted a stunning comeback to defeat Yass in the Regional Grade, while Goulburn once again proved that they are the team to beat with a dominant performance against Ainslie.

Tuggeranong handed the Riverina their first loss of 2015 to move to first in the Women’s Grade. Belconnen and Eastlake were both convincing winners, whilst Queanbeyan got the better of Ainslie in a tight affair.


Ainslie 11.12.78 defeated Queanbeyan 5.20.50
Miles Davis kicked seven goals for the Tricolours as inaccuracy cruelled the away side. The win sees Ainslie hold their place in the top two on the competition ladder.

Belconnen 14.14.98 defeated Tuggeranong 5.2.32
Belconnen fielded close to their best reserve grade line-up after a horror injury run over the past few weeks, and it showed with the Magpies running rampant to hold their place atop the table.

Eastlake 12.8.80 defeated Gungahlin 8.9.57
Eastlake skipped out to a two-goal lead during the first quarter and continued to widen the margin. Alan Stoneman kicked five majors to propel the Demons to victory.


Queanbeyan 11.5.71 defeated Ainslie 9.7.61
The Tigers trailed at every break before producing a spirited fightback in the final term, kicking four goals to one to clinch the win and move to third on the ladder.

Belconnen 11.15.81 defeated Tuggeranong 3.5.23
After leading by just two points at quarter time, Belconnen kicked six goals to one in a dominant second stanza, denying the Hawks an opportunity to collect their first win of the season.

Eastlake 8.9.57 defeated Marist 7.11.53
Two of the competition heavyweights collided at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, and the match went down to the wire. With scores tied up heading in to the fourth quarter, it was the Demons who edged themselves ahead to move in to outright first on the ladder.


Woden 12.8.80 defeated ANU 4.5.29
Daniel McGavin kicked six goals for the Blues in the top of the table clash. Woden’s win sees them move to outright first on the competition ladder.

ADFA/RMC 14.11.95 defeated Batemans Bay 9.6.60
The Rams got off to a solid start away from home, keeping the hosts scoreless in the first term. Will Brayshaw would go on to collect Best on Ground honours for the victors.

Molonglo 21.13.139 defeated UC 6.3.39
The hosts shot out to a 42-point lead at quarter time and never looked back. Molonglo’s Ray Jackson again proved near unstoppable in the forward line, kicking six majors to go with Simon McPherson’s five.


ANU 14.21.105 defeated Woden 6.3.39
Ten players booted majors for ANU, led by the league’s leading goal scorer Tim Robb, whose five goals took his season tally to 44 – double the total of second place.

Harman 17.7.109 defeated ADFA/RMC 6.6.42
The Hogs continued their rich vein of form, as they refused to concede a goal in the first and last quarters to take their seventh win in eight starts.

Molonglo 15.11.101 defeated UC 9.14.68
The Juggernauts collected their second win on the trot to move off the bottom of the competition table. Warren Taylor led the way for the home side, kicking six goals.


Goulburn 26.12.169 defeated Ainslie 2.3.15
Fourteen players kicked majors for the Swans as they recorded another comprehensive win to stay at the top of the competition table. Brody Willis continued his fine form, taking Best on Ground honours.

Cooma 7.7.49 defeated Yass 5.17.47
The Cats faced an uphill battle against Yass after trailing by twenty points at quarter time. Still behind at three quarter time, a monumental effort in the fourth quarter sealed a brilliant comeback victory.

Cootamundra defeated Tuggeranong


Belconnen 16.5.101 defeated ANU 1.0.6
Kate Chapman kicked six for the Magpies in a dominant performance that sees them move one win clear of fourth on the competition table.

Tuggeranong 7.5.47 defeated Riverina 2.3.15
In a top of the table clash, the Hawks got the better of the Lions after a dominant first quarter laid the platform for their fifth win of the season.

Queanbeyan 6.10.46 defeated Ainslie 5.5.35
A sixteen point margin at quarter time in favour of the Tigerettes proved the difference in the end, with the following three quarters very even. Queanbeyan now sit seventh, but are only one win away from third place, highlighting how tight this competition is in season 2015.

Eastlake 14.13.97 defeated Molonglo 2.3.15
Karina Demant has well and truly established herself as one of the best players in the competition, kicking six goals for Eastlake, who now sit in fourth on the competition ladder.
